This page is full of educational and social/emotional resources for primary grade students.  These resources are compiled for you to have access to meaningful learning resources at home.

ABCmouse.com is an online website geared for preschool and primary-aged students that provides an extensive curriculum to gain essential skills in reading, writing, language development, mathematical operations, science inquiry, and learning about history and geography.  ABCmouse.com provides early learners access to age-appropriate curricula to literacy and math skills to help learners achieve significant gains on key early literacy skills.  At-home interventions can be

                                                             Students can read

                                                             Mouse” to help gain uppercase and lowercase letter recognition and listen to rhyming words and word families for beginning readers.  Games like “Squawk Block” can help teach primary age learners addition fluency and recognizing addition facts for adding from 1-20.

Families using ABC Mouse can utilize the website to access a fully immersive virtual experience of educational activities teaching essential skills in math, language arts, science, and social studies.  The website provides children developmentally appropriate instruction to practice beginning reading and math skills to help build a child’s educational foundation for future success.  Families can follow a comprehensive learning path that is aligned with a child’s learning level reinforcing early learning objective in literacy, math, science, and social studies.  Children reading books like “Lion and the Mouse” and playing math games such as “Squawk Block” can be used as supplemental enrichment activities to support Common Core Standards requirements.

Jack Hartmann YouTube Channel provides young learners developmentally age appropriate learning videos that incorporate diverse music types, rhythms, and beats with creative movements to demonstrate a wide variety of early childhood topics.  Jack Hartmann videos captivate young learners by using music and catchy skill building songs to help support language development, phonological awareness skills, basic math with number counting and number skills, spatial awareness, and social and emotional management.  Families have access to videos that include curriculum and researched based songs that children can watch that can help build on reading, literacy, language, phonological awareness, and basic math skills  integrated with music and creative movement to enhance and support student learning they have received in their classrooms.  

The educational videos help young learners actively participate in counting, number identification, reading and language skills, rhyming, physical fitness, dance, and movement to improve the learning experience.  Hartmann’s videos create an engaging sensory experience that first grade learners can connect with and understand and hear the concepts being taught.  By interacting with the songs and dance, young learners are able to process and connect with the instructional material to increase knowledge retention.  Jack Hartmann provides families and educators access to a large collection of short educational  videos for reading, math, science, and social emotional learning to motivate and captivate students with purposeful digital content.

My Peekaville is an mobile device app designed to help provide support to educators, parents, and caregivers with resources, and materials to help empower children with skills to manage their emotions and assist in their social emotional learning (SEL). In My Peekaville, children are build on emotional skills to recognize concepts like empathy, respect, and self regulation through a series of games, ebooks, and activities.  It incorporates literacy, game-based learning to engage students and the learning elements are designed using evidence based research practices to create personalized learning for students.  Children interact with characters within the game that help them solve problems through activities and games that incorporate on skill to identify emotional cues and support their social emotional learning needs.

The online games allows students to practice SEL skills in real-life scenarios, which engages them further in the learning and embedding of SEL competencies. The games are interactive and motivating for children, but more importantly they provide students access to learn and master strategies while building problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration. In the first activity to help Leo the Hedgehog identify his nervous ‘first day of school’ emotions many students can relate their own feelings to the scenario and how to manage through this anxiety. This type of game-based learning also promotes more interactive learning experiences in class or at home. Teachers or caregivers can monitor and assess student progress and moods and identify which students may need additional support.

Be A Learning Hero is an online tool where parents have the opportunity to support their child’s learning with big or small actions at home.  There’s a big gap between what parents think about their child’s grade level progress versus how their child is doing. Be A Learning Hero is focused on helping families get an accurate picture of what their students need and deserve to provide the best support for learning at home.  This resource informs and equips parents with tools and strategies to implement that can best support their children's educational and developmental success at home. Parents can create educational plans and read family engagement resources from the Learning Hero website to help support a positive learning environment for their students.

With parents as their children's learning heroes, children have a greater chance at excelling in school, leading lives of opportunity. Families take an active role in a child’s progress and development while sparking the love of learning as part of everyday life.  Teachers are the experts of the classroom of learning and parents are the experts on their children, when parents and teachers collaborate they can effectively share details regarding their students to best connect the home and family-school connection for learning success.

Storyline is a free reading resource families can access that provides a collection of high-quality, developmentally appropriate books that are read by celebrities.  Children can benefit from listening to read alouds.  It helps students learn the use of language, can improve information processing skills, vocabulary, and comprehension.  Storyline Online provides quality texts that provide a great way to engage your students in reading with activities that support their literacy learning.  

Read alouds for children has been shown to improve reading, writing, and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude.  Families can choose to listen to the story “Arnie the Donut” and students will gain the practice of hearing reading fluency, pronunciation skills, and language accuracy.

Storyline Online website is easy to navigate and is available 24 hours a day for children, parents, caregivers, and educators. Each book includes a supplemental curriculum developed by an educator, aiming to strengthen comprehension and verbal and written skills for English-language learners.  ​Storyline Online gives families access to a variety of genre book selections, like “Arnie the Donut” that appeal to all leveled readers and interests that lay a solid foundation in children becoming successful readers and communicators.

Teach Your Monster To Read is a phonics and reading app that provides children various games to learn to read.  Children create a monster and take it on a journey playing rigorous games with phonics schemes that help improve their reading skills.  Kids start out learning to map letters to sound identification.  They work their way through their game journey and progress through letter combinations (phonemes, build to sight words, reading full sentences, to writing stories about their monster’s journey.  There are three starting points along the way for the game based on children’s current reading levels.  Completing the game takes approximately 43 weeks based on 20 minutes of play per week.  Children playing the letter sound sort game are working to master a key component of the Common Core English Language Arts standards to demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary or many of the most frequent sounds for each consonant.

The Teach Your Monster To Read program is a free app or internet program available for parents or teachers to use to help supplement reading instruction.  Children’s progress can be monitored through a dashboard including how often they play, what games they are playing, and how well they are doing.  Parents can assess the basic reading and pre reading skills while children are engaging in interactive ways to read on their own time.  When children are playing the interactive games, the game helps differentiate instruction to begin the game at their current appropriate reading level to build on their foundational reading skills.
