REFLECTIVE CONNECTION

6a: This NAEYC standard ensures that early childhood educators provide evidence to support the ability to identify and involve themselves with the early childhood field and serve as informed advocates for young children, families, and the profession.  My Philosophy of Education assignment demonstrates how I evaluated the historical and philosophical foundations of public school education and developed, articulated, and defended teaching beliefs on the aims and purposes of education, what should be taught in school, instructional methods utilized, and the understood the importance of the teacher/student relationship in student success. The Community Action Plan project exhibits how I see race, gender preference, and socioeconomic inequalities within my small island school district putting families and students at risk of not having equal opportunities and/or access to educational tools for student success and developing a plan to help use community resources to support children's learning opportunities and build relationships among the community and its student population.

6b: This NAEYC standard ensures that early childhood educators provide evidence to support the understanding of upholding ethical and other early childhood professional guidelines. My Trends and Analysis project shows how I was able to analyze a variety of trends and issues in the early care and education profession through a demonstrated applied understanding of the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct of upholding ethical and other early childhood professional guidelines.

6c: This NAEYC standard ensures that early childhood educators provide evidence to support the ability to use professional communication skills, including technology-mediated strategies, to effectively support young children’s learning and development and to work with families and colleagues.

6d: This NAEYC standard ensures that early childhood educators provide evidence to support the understanding of engaging in continuous, collaborative learning to inform practice. My Curation Website and Resources project demonstrates my ability to gather developmentally appropriate resources for students, families, and colleagues that provide opportunities for authentic learning experiences to support the development of executive function skills. My Learning Plans were created to demonstrate my ability to develop mini-lessons based on an early learning standard that are developmentally appropriate and provide opportunities for authentic learning in the early learning setting.

6e: This NAEYC standard ensures that early childhood educators provide evidence to support the ability to develop and sustain the habit of reflective and intentional practice in their daily work with young children and as members of the early childhood profession. The Vision Statement shows my understanding as a reflexive practitioner and effective educator and the values, skills, and expected student and team outcomes in both the classroom and workplace setting. My Community Action Plan: Outcome Map & "So That Chain" displays my understanding of how toxic stress in a child's life, in addition to other environmental circumstances, can influence early childhood development.
