REFLECTIVE CONNECTION

2a: This NAEYC standard ensures that early childhood educators support the knowledge, understanding, and value of diversity among families.  My Community Resources Page displays my ability to curate resources that understand my local community and supports educating young children and families with authentic resources to help keep the home and school learning environments connected. My Multicultural Children’s Book Project illustrates my ability to design a developmentally appropriate multicultural teaching tool around pro-social behaviors.

2b: This NAEYC standard ensures that early childhood instructors support collaborative partnerships with families in young children's development and learning through respectful, reciprocal relationships, and engagement.  Shayla's IEP Synthesis Activity shows how educators support, understand, and value the diverse learning abilities of each student to establish educational goals within our care and stress how both the parents and teacher equally play an important role in developing a child's educational plan.  My Family Involvement Plan exhibits my ability to create a learning plan with certain goals and actions that support early childhood development with effective partnerships between the school and its families as a crucial key element. Collaborative partnerships are highlighted, to signify the importance of respectful and reciprocal teacher and family relationships leading to more student success.

2c: This NAEYC standard ensures that the early childhood teachers will use community resources to support young children’s learning and development and support families, and build partnerships between school, community, and society.  Having underrepresentation of racial and gender preference representation in school staff may not give students and staff opportunities to identify with the student body of various cultures within the school and/or teachers due to the lack of connection due to culture or racial boundaries that can be present. My Community Action Plan demonstrates how I see race, gender preference, and socioeconomic inequalities within my small island school district putting families and students at risk of not having equal opportunities and/or access to educational tools for student success and developing a plan to help use community resources to support children's learning opportunities and build relationships among the community and its student population. The Curation Page for Families demonstrates my ability to gather an authentic, developmentally appropriate learning opportunity presenting the best resources in a meaningful and organized way.
